Tongeren

The next day we headed back to Brussels and we stopped in several small towns along the way. The first was Tongeren which could be the oldest town in Belgium if you believe the tourist literature. There are Roman ruins, shown here.
There is also a medieval wall, which Chris and Eliot are atop.










Here is Carol demonstrating that she could fit through a door designed for the smaller people who lived hundreds of years ago when this town gate was built. It was helpful to see the demo :) The blue road sign next to her took me a while to figure out, or even really notice, as I grew accustomed to driving in Belgium. It means that cars traveling in the direction under the gate to where we were standing (which has the red arrow) must yield to the direction about to go under the gate (white arrow). I guess it works, but I think it's a bit subtle.
