Between Maastricht and Aachen

We saw a sign for this WWII American cemetary on the road to Aachen and took the turn to go see it. The surrounding countryside was ablaze with fall colors. Eliot and I spent some time under this red tree collecting leaves.

Two of Patrick's uncles fought in this area; they were parachuted in. They survived.
Here is a monument in the cemetary. Military cemetaries take on a whole different slant when you have a child. Too sad for me to see all the lives ended by war. After a quick look at the grave stones below Eliot and I went to play under the trees.

After the cemetary, we headed to this place called Dreilandenpunt where Belgium, Germany, and the Netherlands come together. Dreilandenpunt = three lands point, I think. Here is the family at the actual point where the countries meet. We are each in a different country. Eliot had a stint on a playground here and then we were on to Aachen.
