On the right is Delhaize, kind of the Dominick's equivalent. We registered for their "loyalty card" so that we can use this cool scanner system that they have. As you put things in your cart, you scan them with a portable scanner kind of like those we use in the US for wedding/baby registries. Then, you go to special checkout lanes where you put the scanner in a docking station and then can pay. A cashier might spot check things in your cart to make sure you scanned them. It is a novelty for me, so it is fun. And, it is faster than the typical check out line. Almost everyone here uses reusable bags. The store charges for non-reusable bags.
A row of houses. Most houses have flowers in windowboxes or on the front step.
An arrow of flowers pointing to the town hall where we registered just after arriving. In the waiting room Eliot distributed brochures to indulgant people who were also waiting. We will have our residency permits in a couple of weeks.
