D-Day Beaches

Pointe du Hoc where Army Rangers scaled the cliffs to take over this German position on the cost. The craters are from Allied bombs. It was a very interesting place to visit and was very moving to think of the bravery and sacrifice of the rangers. So hard to imagine the terror of the day during our visit which was on a beautiful peaceful day. It did not make a good place to visit with Eliot who was intrigued by the large holes and the concrete German bunkers.
Statue at Omaha beach. It was dedicated in 2004.
Artificial port built from masses of concrete towed from England. Allies unloaded tanks and other supplies from within the breakwater.

Eliot enjoyed playing at the beaches we visited.
