Railz in Rotterdam

The Sunday of our weekend in Rotterdam was very rainy so in the morning we opted to visit Railz, an indoor model railroad museum depicting rail and other goods and people movement venues in the Netherlands. (Eliot loves trains so it seemed like it would be a hit.) It was quite an amazing place. Normal towns (including ones that actually exist like Kinderdijk) were modeled in addition to Rotterdam's port, chemical refineries, and farms. Here is a shot of part of the exhibit.

I put all the photos up from Railz (mostly for my dad) at http://picasaweb.google.com/jenmbdunn/Railz#
Eliot had a lot to point at during our visit. His arm stayed up almost the whole time. At one point, he saw a little bus driving around and said excitedely, "Bus! Wheels! Round and round!" (He likes to sing, "The Wheels on the Bus.") He was very distressed when it was time to go but was quickly happy again when he saw the play area (see last picture). He didn't even really want to have lunch so absorbed was he in the train toys.
This archeological dig going on in the world of Railz made me chuckle.
Eliot playing with the tracks and trains. He made us so proud when it was time to leave because after some gentle encouragement he put the tracks back in their box even though it was clear he really, really wanted them.

Colleen is very jealous of your trip to see the model trains. She always points and tells us when there is a train coming down the elevated Red Line tracks.
