Louvain-La-Neuve, Belgium

On Sunday we went to this town which is almost entirely to do with the Universite Catholique Louvain. There used to be only one such university in the Flemish town of Leuven but then a dispute caused the two languages that were at the university (Flemish, French) to split. The French speakers relocated here and built this rather cement, brick, and concrete-heavy town from scratch for their university. I am over simplifying the history, but that's it in a nutshell. The center is entirely car-free and it seemed like it could be a pleasant place to live. Certainly lots of rollerblading opportunity - we saw a few teenagers taking advantage of the empty town to whiz around on rollerblades, bikes, skateboards, and those wheel-shoe combinations.
