Chinese Pavillion and Japanese Tower, Brussels

King Leopold II requested that these examples of Chinese and Japanese buildings be built, but to be honest I forgot why. I think he saw something like these at a world's fair and liked them. We had seen the Japanese tower from the highway one day and went to satisfy our curiosity about it on Sunday. To the left is the Chinese Pavillion. Inside there were displays of ceramics and pottery in opulent surroundings.
Across a busy road is the Japanese tower. We could not go in the red tower, but did enter the brown building in the foreground.
Inside was Japanese pottery and lots of beautiful stained glass along a stairway. Eliot climbed all the stairs himself.
